Family Friendly Things to Do in Tallahassee, Florida
Tallahassee, the capital of Florida, is a vibrant community with a great selection or restaurants, an active cultural scene and plenty of interesting attractions. It is an ideal city for families and there are many things to do here that will be enjoyable on a family getaway.
If your family will be passing through Tallahassee, here are some ideas of what you can do while you are here: Have a Picnic at the Alfred B. Malay Gardens This Florida state park provides your family with a green oasis filled with vibrant flowers.
The ornamental gardens were created in 1923 by Alfred B Malay and his wife Louise. It is a true work of floral artistry, with a secret garden, a walled garden, a reflecting pool and a brick walkway. While you are here, you can swim or canoe in Lake Hall or enjoy a picnic on one of the pavilions by the lake shore.
There are some great trails for hiking. If you visit during June, your children could get to join in the fun on Kids’ Fishing Day! Learn Something New at the Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science This museum, which is associated with the Smithsonian, exhibits fascinating art and science.
It has a hands-on approach to learning so that kids will be able to interact with the exhibits. Interactive museums such as this one, with diverse and interesting exhibits, are great for kids because they will be having so much fun they will forget they are learning.
There is always something interesting on display at the Brogan, from Italian paintings to enormous mechanical bugs. Look under the Water at Wakulla Springs State Park One of the most popular attractions in the Tallahassee area is the River Boat Tour along the Wakulla River.
You can take a glass-bottom boat tour over the basin and peer into the water’s depths. The best time of year to do this is the late winter or early spring. This is when the water is the clearest. At other times, glass-bottom boat rides are not possible due to a greenish tint in the water that impedes visibility.
When you can see down into the depths, it is impressive. You can see schools of catfish, the ancient bones of mastodons and all sorts of mysterious things in the deep water. Your kids will be amazed at the natural wonders underneath the waters.
Call ahead and check the water clarity before you go. Make sure that a glass-bottom boat ride is a realistic option or that day. These are only some of the best family friendly activities you can enjoy in Tallahassee. This city is the perfect stop on your family vacation.
